How does one help someone that has given so much to you? Have you ever thought you had it so bad and then you hear about a situation that was worse than yours? Then it hits us; we do not have it that bad. This happened to me the other day when I got an email from a dear friend.
Back to my email….so this email I got played out the worse nightmare any blogger could face when running an online business. His laptop got stolen. Think about it, your life’s work, files, photos and anything else you can have imagined taken from you. Yes, that sucks, but has it ever happened to you? For some of us who have been hacked in the past, and the devastation is tremendous when our content is completely erased and then we are faced with the painstaking task of trying to rebuild and start all over.
So my friend Jason, went into more detail about his life and for the first time went in depth about the realities of his true surroundings.
It is not like he came out and said,” I do not have this so I cannot do that”, but instead; he never lets his true surroundings be the-end-all to his goal to being a successful entrepreneur. I have met some pretty successful people in my life and for most, instead of being grateful for their accomplishments; I hear more complaints about what they do not still have.
My friend never complained and was still able to help other entrepreneurs when his own situation was bleaker that I thought. Who does that? Why would a person put our aspirations and goals before his own to make others successful? I don’t know about you, but not many.
Bloggers are starting to rally for Jason, and we can use your help too. Any help you can give would be helpful, and the proceeds go directly to him. There are 2 ways you can help:.

Our Friendships Online
There are so many people we network with and meet online. A few become lifelong friends, while others take it further and meet in person. What if you cannot and they live far away, but the friendship still develops either via Skype, Email or a single phone call? Whatever method we use, we go above and beyond to develop and cultivate those friendships.Back to my email….so this email I got played out the worse nightmare any blogger could face when running an online business. His laptop got stolen. Think about it, your life’s work, files, photos and anything else you can have imagined taken from you. Yes, that sucks, but has it ever happened to you? Hi Sonia, this is a nightmare situation but I think ones’ attitude as to how we approach this says a lot (as in your friend). Personally when something bad like this happens to me (and I have had my account hacked) then to stop myself going crazy I like to think about the many ways it could be much worse and usually I start to feel better. I suppose this is a different spin on imagining ‘others more unfortunate than yourself’ but it works for me.

Hi Roz, I can’t even imagine having my blog hacked and it scares the crap out of me, but losing something that allows you to access your files is just as worse. When I first heard about friends who blogs have been hacked in the past, they said it was a living nightmare and they never got their site back, or their files. They had to start all over again and eventually gave up completely. They had so much invested and never backed up their files.

Good Afternoon Sonia, So sorry for your friends mishap. I exactly know the feeling as my computer crashed a few months ago and I LOST everything. I was so depressed for a few days, but then I just put my mind in a state of being strong, and rebuilt everything I could as quick as I could. There are many things I will never get back, but now I have many better things than I had. So every door that closes, a better one opens. Great Post and for sure you showed a true Friend relationship.

Thanks so much for sharing, Carol.
Interestingly, there’s more to it.
I’d already been arrested, homeless (3x), betrayed, failed businesses, and more…
…so the despair lasted maybe an hour or two, tops.
Then I just moved on with my life, finding a new cellphone, rebuilding at internet cafes, keeping client committments, etc.
I’m currently telling the story to other bloggers and the press, mostly because it feels right and I have nothing else left

Jason, I’m so darn sorry man. That sucks my friend. I’ve never had anything like that happened but have had my computer crash and lost everything on my hard drive. Luckily for me at that time, I didn’t have a lot of photos, videos, etc. Doesn’t make it any easier though. Your attitude about it says a lot about the person that you are.
As you both are probably aware, my Dad use to bring me back down to earth on a regular basis. I always realized how very blessed I am to have what I do so to complain about the small stuff is almost like spitting in someone’s face that’s on their death bed. A huge lesson I learned early in life thank goodness.

RE: Backup.
People sometimes like to mention this ‘backup’ idea to me — and I know they mean well — but I feel like they don’t really understand…
…because I’m literally a 174+ IQ genius, a hyper-detailed virgo, I’ve been raised on computers since I was 5 or 6 on a Commodore 64, and I’ve backed up literally TERAbytes of data in my lifetime.
It just wasn’t meant to be this time, and there’s good reasons for it.
For me… this isn’t about whether I’m ‘prepared’ or ‘smart enough’ to have a backup. It’s more like when Richard Branson’s house burned down — something in Life that is Meant To Be.
I hope you’re feelin’ me
Again, I really really appreciate you. Thank you.

Yep, I with it, Mayura.
I really do understand the suggestion, and I appreciate it.
To me, it assumes that for whatever reason, I had NOT made every reasonable effort to have one.
It’s kind of like seeing a dehydrated man, in a desert, dying of thirst, holding an empty water flask and saying… “well did you bring spare water?”
You just know he’s not an idiot, and he would’ve brought more water if he could’ve, but no — thats not how life went
Does that make sense?
Anyway, I really treasure every suggestion, because it’s people who dont want me to experience this again. Thats love

Sonia & Jason: It hurts really bad to get getting anything stolen. A couple years ago I was burglarized and my laptop plus hard drive was stolen, along with many other things, but those two were most valuable to me. They weren’t the most expensive, but far more valuable. I had all my files saved and so I had to start all over as well. I ended up canceling my website and taking a break for about two years.
