Every day a new blog is created, and for some, there might be minimal traffic while for others there is massive traffic. Are we dejected if our blog receives little or no traffic, or do we still find a way to keep chugging along? Have you ever pondered the idea of giving up or do you find yourself just going through the motions? What motivates you to blog?
Maintaining a blog takes work and constant effort. Some bloggers expect money immediately or set expectations on themselves following every word another blog might claim to be their end-all. Some blogs might succeed and have minimal success, but that success might be short-lived. Once traffic dies, and they cannot repeat the same instance, some blogs go dormant or disappear altogether.
When I started this blog I had different aspirations and my blog just evolved, but once I figured out what I enjoyed sharing it just clicked. I like the idea of sharing my past experiences, victories and failures to support new bloggers learn from my mistakes. I do not want anyone to do what I write as their end-all solution to their success, but if I can teach them something new or help them avoid common problems, that works for me.
How do you stay motivated to continue blogging?
Connections: Networking has opened many doors for me and it allowed me to meet people I get to communicate with daily. Building those connections did not happen overnight, but I built each relationship over time and give credit where credit was due. (Thanks Jen!)
- Sharing other people’s content
- Blog commenting
- Guest posting
Personal goals: I write and create small goals on what I want to achieve and why it is worth going through the trouble to achieve it. The motivation behind what we do is the driving force for how we conduct the way we work.
- Set small goals you can realistically achieve
- Removing distractions that keep you from getting your work done
- Writing down goals you can see on a daily basis
- Creating a to-do list you can actually finish
Giving back: When I started blogging the only information I had was what I learned online from bloggers that had a strong passion for what they do. Who or what inspired you to create your blog? Sometimes revisiting what inspired us in the first place to blog gives us motivation to keep going.
- Giving credit to those that inspired us
- Linking back to articles that inspired your post
- Helping new bloggers that ask you for help
- Giving back to those that have little or no experience
Passion: Is making money your sole purpose with your blog or are we just excited about what we do? There will be trials and errors with new things we try. Some things might work, while other ventures might fail. What is your why behind what you do? We might find something that makes us money, but if there is no passion behind what you do, eventually you will lose momentum for that too.
- Having the drive or willingness to try again and again
- Never giving up on your goals
- Learning from past mistakes
- Not repeating past mistakes
We go through so many different changes over time, with themes, design, identity and direction, but nothing is more powerful than what we think of ourselves and what we are willing to do to reach our goals. There is no one blog or website that will keep you motivated more than you motivating yourself.
Question: Do you find it hard to stay motivated to blog?
