Pinterest has solidified its dominance as a great alternative for more traffic to your website. As this becomes another tool to market your business, you still have to beware of the spammers popping up. With the popularity of Pinterest, we now have to beware of spam photos or possible viruses.
Now, Pinterest instituted a new option where you can now add your URL directly to your profile to verity that the site is yours.
If you are like me, I am not that tech savvy and telling me to upload something to my server is like telling me to create something in Photoshop without the software downloaded. Today, I want to share how I did it if you run a Self-hosted website via WordPress.
1. Go to your Pinterest page and click on “settings”. Scroll down till you see your website and click on “Verify website”.

2. Click “Download the HTML Verification File.” Download the file and leave it on your desktop you can find it easily.

3. Log into your Cpanel and click on “File Manager”.

4. Click on File manager and select “Web Root” and click “Go”.

5. In the File manager page, click “Upload” and find the Pinterest file on your desktop and click upload.

6. Click upload, find the file you downloaded from Pinterest and upload the file to your server.

Verified!

That’s it! Now you can go back to your Pinterest page to see that your website is now verified.
Question: Have you verified your site?

Lisa
Sonia, I LOVE how you showed us how with WordPress – CPanel is not my favorite place to be. The place always makes me nervous.
I did verify my other “retail” sites with help from StoresOnline tech. It took them a while. I haven’t decided if I should for my own personal one – I have it set up as me but did share my blog URL on it. You got me thinking. You have yours as your name and verified your blog. (I may go for it)
Funny thing, my Pinterest board ranks higher than the actual site (Google ranking) Go figure!

Hey Lisa, you have no idea how long it took me to get this right. I found a few posts that explained it, but I tend to learn better when I get step by step advice with pictures. In 1 minute I was done when I wished the other posts gave me explicit directions that I could understand. I didn’t know it was that easy, so I knew I had better pass this jewel on to anyone else that felt like me too.

Hey Brenda, I read a few other posts about it and no one really just SHOWED me how to actually do it. Maybe I just don’t like vague instruction and love it when people actually demonstrate it in more detail. I couldn’t wait to share this post. Glad it worked out for you. How is Titan?

Hey Sonia,
You did it again my friend. This tutorial is amazing. It is a time saver for so many. Also, It is of the utmost importance to have your site verified. There are so many “hackers” out there, that it needs to be done.

Hi Donna! I heard about that and thought I should get mine done too so at least I would look legit. More and more spam pictures are showing up on Pinterest and I find myself now getting picky about who I repin from. Luckily, I have seen alerts to not repin images that were alerted to be spam. Hopefully this helps others to get their sites verified.

Hi Stacy, I thought that too. LOL! If you told me to upload it to my FTP, I start laughing because I am just not that tech savvy when it comes to stuff like that. Once I finally figured it out, I couldn’t believe how easy it was. Still, I knew others out there might not know how either and step by step tutorials always work for me! How is the book coming along?

Oh people love easy instructions Sonia and that’s exactly what you just gave us.
I just did mine a couple weeks ago actually. It’s the same process when verifying your site in Google webmaster tools so if anyone needs help with that, follow Sonia’s simple instructions and you’re on your way.
Bravo girl, thank you so much.

Thanks for this tutorial Sonia. Again what a good one. I guess I’ve got to do it now. It seems easy enough and will do this very soon.
I’ve heard of the bad seeds that are sending virus though pictures on Pinterest, that’s so sad that such evil is always lurking to do bad things.
Thanks your step by step

Good to know, Sonia, I have NOT done this but now I guess I should get in gear… since Pinterest just released its business pages I have to check that out too. Always something new to do! Anyway I think Pinterest should pay you for writing this, since they couldn’t be the ones to make it clear to their users how to do it!

Hey Sonia,
Great job on educating us with step by step instructions for verifying our blogs on Pinterest. I saw a video from Brankica and completed the process about a week ago.
I even saw a post with instructions for doing this on a Blogger blog.
I thought that was pretty cool but I had no way to test them out.
btw – I’m glad you invited me to the marketing board – I started a CommentLuv Blogs board too and your blog has already been pinned!

Sonia, what a great tutorial. I must be the only one that’s getting hung up here… I’ve followed everything to the tee, but when it comes to uploading the file that I JUST downloaded, I get a bar at the bottom of the page that says “C:\fakepath\pinterest-34646.html” and then doesn’t load anything to finish the verifying process. I’m desperate to make this happen and I’ve been searching everywhere… one of my potential ad networks is requiring my pinterest page to be verified as a business account. please help.

I have now tried this in a different browser (was in chrome before), and at least this time it tell me that the upload is complete, but Pinterest still isn’t showing me as verified. help!
Twitter: happyfoodholly
Sonia
I used Chrome too when I did this. When you download the HTML from pinterest, save it to your desk top. It will look like the Chrome (icon). That is what you will use to upload this to your FTP or Hostgator. When I tried this it failed on me a few times too. If you use Hostgator, put Pinterest in the search fields (in Cpanel File Manager) and delete the other Pinterest files you uploaded. This might be the confusion because it was already downloaded. Once you delete the other files, redo it again and it should work.
