With winter waning and spring trying to push its beauty into the days, it is time to think about dive vacations with the one you love. Divers are chaffing to get into that wet suit, grab their regulators and slide under the water to explore some of the world’s prettiest reefs. But what about topside, in this article I will highlight some great spots for divers and particularly couples. First off:
Not only is it the Soft Coral Capital of the World with over 4000 square miles of amazing reefs, 1000’s of species of marine life and warm welcoming water year round, but it is one of the most romantic spots to dive into. There are 333 Islands that make up Fiji, all welcoming and each with attributes all their own. From bustling Nadi and Denaru to peaceful Yasawa all the islands feature amazing diving, rain forests, and resorts to romance the night away.
Romantic over the water bungalows are popping up at all the 5 star resorts the traditional Bure hut with:
Next we travel to the Southern Caribbean stopping in Romantic St. Lucia. This small Windward Island is the newest hot spot for romance with 8 All Inclusive resorts including Sandals with over the water bungalows, Anse Chastanet with 600 acres of beach front and the Jade Mountain Resort over-looking the amazing harbor. The twin peaks “The Pitons” invite sailors to the peaceful shores reminiscent of Tahiti.
Diving is amazing with several ship wrecks to tempt exploration and the stunning variety of coral, sponge and marine life. Artificial reefs have developed around a number of sunken ships which have become home to huge gorgonians, black coral trees, gigantic barrel sponges, purple vase sponges and black lace corals. Exciting Caribbean diving trips will reveal turtles, nurse sharks, seahorses, angel fish, and golden spotted eels, to name but a few, among the dazzling cross section of Caribbean marine life.
Just 3 ½ hours from Miami and prices from $250 round trip St. Lucia is truly an affordable romantic vacation spot this year.
Third on my list is the amazing British Virgin Islands. I have sailed around this island group on an old 3-masted schooner, dive the amazing Wreck of the Rhone, (A British Ship that split and went down in a Hurricane in 1867) and witnessed the most beautiful sunsets in my life.
This small group of Islands borders the Atlantic Ocean just east of our US Virgin Islands. Practically a throwback these islands have not allowed the huge growth other Caribbean destinations have enjoyed recently…Thus, the people are not jaded, the locations have not been overrun with huge hotels and the dive sites are pristine.
Tortola is your first stop, and the main island for accommodations. 3 resorts and a myriad of small inns welcome you to this old British pirate port. Stroll through the quaint streets, wander the white sand beaches and savor the fine cuisine.
You can also:
Next is Roatan! This small group of island resorts lays just off the coast of Honduras in Central America. Yes, I know Honduras is not the safest place to visit these days, but you do not even touch the mainland! Fly right onto Roatan and transfer to the resort of your choice. Safe, secluded and amazing diving awaits you here.
Finally I cannot forget the Pearl of the South Pacific Tahiti. 2 Million square miles of amazing tropical waters, 113 islands with a land mass smaller then Rhode Island and tales of romance draw couples to the stunning sunsets and inviting waters, of Tahiti.
The Area known as Tahiti includes the Society Islands, comprised of:

- Small islands like Peter Isle, Cooper Isle and Ginger Isle offer secluded beaches and clear crystal dive sites
- Or pamper yourselves at the new Scrub Island 6 star resort that boasts the most private romantic locations with a yacht club, marina, condos and private beaches.

Safe, secluded and amazing diving awaits you here.
- Resorts like Anthony’s Key that offer private bungalows and a small intimate atmosphere.
- Barefoot Cay, a privately owned 4 acre island offering bungalows, cabana swim areas, heavenly beds on the beach and is situated behind an amazing reef, protecting the area from large waves.
- Pure Vida Resort offers just 25 rooms on a protected reef
- Coco View has wonderful bungalows over the water.

Tahiti
- Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and 3 more main islands
- The Tuamotu Atolls or “Tahiti’s Strand of Pearls
- The Marquesas, or “The Mysterious Islands.”

Thanks Paula for this awesome post. I can’t say I would scuba dive because I don’t swim. Girl you know black people don’t know how to swim! LOL! Kidding aside, it looks beautiful considering Fiji is my dream vacation.

Awe Sonia…How can you live in Ca and not swim…gotta teach you soon! Any of these locations are fabulous romantic getaways even if you don’t dive, snorkel or swim…Fiji is the top of my Bucket List!
I WILL GET THERE SOME DAY!!!!

I can second Fiji! I’ve been there two years ago and it was awesome! If you take the time to travel to one of the outer islands (aka not the yasawa islands), you might even end up being alone with your spouse! Like I’ve been to a small island on the east coast (you could walk around it in 20 minutes) and there were only two other guests on it and I barely saw them all day….

I wish I could visit Fiji soon. My coworker is leaving in 3 weeks to go for 15 days to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. I am so envious.

Oh, don’t create such a travel bug in me! I would love to visit any and all of the above places for the main reason that they all sit on the water. As long as it has a coastline, it is already on my radar. I have never scuba-dived but I have heard it’s an amazing experience that immerses you (slight pun intended) into a completely different world.

Glad you liked Paula’s post. She is a very good friend of mine a very experienced Scuba diver herself. If anyone knows about scuba diving it’s Paula. Glad you liked the post. Considering that I can’t swim, I can still dream about the crystal clear blue water with the colorful fish.

@TerriAnn, Love the Pun! If you ever get the chance to try diving you must, it is truly an immersion into a whole new world.
I have dove ship wrecks that still have cups and combs laying in them, some are homes for the most amazing sea life, and my dive with the sharks was amazing. When I get to my next island, I will be hard pressed to come home….HMMMM maybe I will just move to an Island!!! Gotta Dive!
Adrienne
Wow Paula, thanks for sharing these with us.
Although I don’t dive, I don’t even snorkle, I still love to visit beautiful tropical destinations and enjoy the water and the scenery.
I’ve been to St. Thomas and the British Virgin Islands so I agree, the water is gorgeous. I did go out on a boat and everyone else dove, just not me. Traumatic incident when I was young darn it.

I am with you Adrienne, Paula is my adventure friend and she is super experienced when it comes to diving. What I love most about this post is that it makes you want to really visit these places. Ah…my dream vacation: Fiji.

Paula
@Adrienne, I understand your fear, the first time I tried scuba in a pool I about freaked. I am very claustrophobic! Now I have to relax, get to the bottom and focus then it is on, swim, photos, and follow the critters! Look for more travel posts coming soon!

Ah, those are magic places. I’ve been to Martinique and Guadeloupe many years ago and I almost didn’t come back home which was Paris, back then.
I almost made plans to settle there as a scuba-diving instructor, but I chickened out because I didn’t have the wisdom and knowledge I have now, but if that happened now I would be there.
Thanks for taking me there again, Paula with this post.

Thanks Sylviane, I have never been to any of these places, let alone been out of the country. I am hoping to change that this year with my new job, but I am up to traveling anywhere tropical with crystal clear blue water.

Oh, now look what you got me doing – I’m all thinking about hot summer days on a tropical beach somewhere and yet this year we have chosen to stay at home to be with my Dad which probably means rainy cold days here in the UK !!
I don’t dive but my husband used to – I must admit I can do great heights but when it comes to under water I am a bit chicken – too worried about breathing through my mouth and not being able to speak!! Favourite destination is probably where we got married – Mauritius – just beautiful!

Ok, I admit I’m probably never going to scuba dive either but I certainly wouldn’t mind sitting on one of those beaches watching! Last real beach I was on (other than Jersey Shore, not exactly the same…) was about 3 years ago and boy do I miss it. Thanks for giving me something to daydream about

Visiting those beaches would be a dream for me too. I can’t swim a lick and that’s ok by me because most of those beaches allow you to walk out far enough where you feel like your in the middle anyway. Paula painted a great picture of each destination and she has other goodies in store about more fab trip ideas.

John, you didn’t share where you have gone? What places have you visited? I am so envious because I am in California and there nothing tropical about this place, but we do have Disneyland! LOL!

Well, my goal is to visit these incredible places in the near future. The ocean though is a bit different from a sea. I grew up in Greece and the Mediterranean sea. The waters are different and it’s easier to swim (safer – almost no sharks). My best friend is diving even in winter, but I prefer blogging than freezing in the cold waters!!!

Fiji is wonderful… my husband and I went there for our honeymoon last spring. We stayed at a resort called wananavu on the north side of Viti Levu. We dove the Bligh Waters almost every day, and sometimes were the only two divers on the only boat in sight. Absolutely incredible, one of the most memorable trips of my life.
I’ve never been to the rest on your list… hopefully someday

I haven’t tried scuba diving. But with my recent encounter with whale sharks (while snorkeling), I suddenly felt that I need to learn scuba diving! I really felt jealous with the scuba divers during that time so now I’m planning to take lessons.
Sonia
Scuba diving sounds wonderful, but considering I can’t swim, I might freak out. LOL…it’s not something I won’t rule out, but sharks and me aren’t friends. If you ever go scuba diving make sure you come back to share your experience. Thank you Tiffany for leaving your comment and supporting Paula’s post.

Oh Tiffany, welcome to the underwater world! I adore diving and any water sports, i swim most days! Have done a dive in the Bahamas where i swam with 13 black tip reef sharks it was amazing. When your ready for a real dive vacation let me know, I have access to the best resorts for your trip! And Sonia I am gonna get you underwater one of these days!

Hi
The only one of these places I have been near to is st lumia. We went to Antigua 2 years ago and we loved that and the water there for diving was awesome. I only did snorkelling but I must of been in the water for about 2 hours everyday.
Great memories thanks lee
