For the past 6 months, I have been working with a software tool that I absolutely love. It’s well-known for some bloggers and most designers, but today I wanted to share this awesome tool with you. Snagit. What is Snagit? Snagit is a screenshot program that captures video display and audio output. Originally for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems, recent versions have also been available for Apple Mac.
Let’s say you want to capture a portion of a website and you decide to try and copy and paste the front page of your favorite website. What you end up with is more than you need and most times it just doesn’t work. The website below belongs to my friend Marce, owner and operator of SanJoseBass.com. I have always been a fan of this website (bass fishing duh!) so I thought I would use some of his bass picks as an example.
If you wanted to copy and paste the entire image of his front page, it would might be hard for a non-would-be designer to figure it out. With Snagit, you can copy only the portion of front page that you want. Then you cut off sections of the page that you don’t want.
“Snagit gives you all the tools to communicate clearly, every time. With Snagit, it’s easy to create eye-catching images and videos for quick communication.”
Snagit works great for business, education or projects at home. The options are endless and they provide great tutorial videos that show you how to easily create your own masterpiece using Snagit. What I like best is that the videos aren’t long winded and boring. They really deliver a great product and make learning it simple.

With Snagit you can:
- Take a photo of your computer screen, including long webpages
- You can create demo videos to share with anyone.
- Enhance images with text and special effects.
- Share images and videos for presentations, social media sites, and more.

Some other cool tips about this product is other features you can use or add:
- You can easily share videos directly to YouTube, Screencast, FTP, Twitter and Facebook.
- You can share pictures you create to via Facebook, Twitter and Email.
- Auto-storing – No need to worry about pressing the save button. This program automatically saves your image creations.
- Tagging – If you need to finish editing a photo later, this program lets you easily tag photos and come right back where you left off.
- Easy access to a complete set of video tutorials to learn how to use every feature made possible.
- Over 40 Ways to Capture Your Screen.
- Spell check
- Available for both Windows and Mac
- Very affordable and reasonably priced.

Hi Sonia,
I’m feeling faint…. am I the first to comment? What a pleasant change that makes
I simply love Snagit, it is so easy to use and enables us to do so much with it. I haven’t done any videos with it but I have used it for eBooks, instruction guides and creating my own images.
I assist on another blog and often get Snagit open to produce recipe covers to share on the blog and pin them to Pinterest. I really do love the program, the more we use it the better it becomes.
I still have lots to learn about it but they supply all the training we need.
If anyone is looking to produce step by step guides then it really is a must have tool.
All of the images I had in my posts for the video blog challenge were created with Snagit. I wouldn’t be without it now
Best of luck to the 2 lucky people that get it from you, they’re going to love it as well.

Yes, you are the first! This program is so fun to use. I remember wondering who people were making copies of images that I tried to make and how they were adding all these red arrows. Actually I found Snagit by chance and started using from then on out. I can capture sections of a web page that I want and omit what I don’t want. How cool is that? I included a link to download it for free if anyone is really interested in seeing how it works too, because it’s worth every penny! Thanks Barry!

Hey Sonia,
Well you may know by now but I won Barry’s video challenge and the prize was the license to Camtasia and SnagIt. So this post came in very handy for me since I’ve been playing around in it for a short while.
I love the ease of use and the way you can edit things right there. I’m going to be spoiled now.
Whoever wins this one is going to be very lucky indeed. Great little program.

I know I was so happy for you. You will absolutely love this program. I have been using for months now and it has so many cool features. There are things I have seen done on other websites and now I know the little secret to their design. To me that is the best part because now I can create something with a simple tool and still pull it off! Thank you for your message!

Ooooo I love snagit! It’s so easy to use. I find myself using it a lot when I’m trying to explain something to a client, either show them how to do something or where to click. It takes forever to explain things sometimes, so usually I just snap a quick screen shot, stick a red arrow in there and send it! It’s also good for instructions because sometimes I have to show the same thing over and over to different people – then I snap a few screen shots, label them step 1, 2, 3 and done. I bet Camtasia is good for that, too, but have not tried it. Probably capturing a scrolling screen is my favorite. I’m going to bookmark this post and send it to everyone for reference so I don’t have to explain how to use it myself

I haven’t used Camtasia yet, but that’s the next tool I need to master. Snagit really makes learning their tools so easy. Whoever the person is behind the videos should create all tutorials out there. Web Designers could learn a thing or too behind their videos. Step by Step tutorials create happy customers when they are trying use a template that they bought. If only… Snagit Rules!

Hi Sonia, I’ve been using Awesome Screenshot, a Chrome extension but Snagit looks like it has a lot more features. Nice review.

I love Snagit and you will too if you win! There are some other options, like Microsoft’s Snipit tool and it does the job too, but Snagit takes it one step further. Brian, you will eat this program alive when you start using it. It’s a daily thing for me.

I have been using the little nip tool that was included with windows. It is not the best, and it can take some extra work to make the images look nice. Would definitively use some thing that had some more power.

Yeah I had to use it too for a while till I got the ok to buy it for work. I can’t live without this program and the cost isn’t half bad either. I figured why not spring for 2 people to score it and share the love. Good luck!

Sonia,
You know I would leave a comment weather you were doing a contest or not. But since you…here I am!
I have not used snagit yet so when you pick me to be the winner I’ll have to do a blog post review and give you total credit for it.
I must say though…the posts with the images and arrows and directions are great tutorial posts. They appeal to the visual learner like me as well as taking an ordinary post and making it pop!
Thank you for the information and the chance to enter the contest.

Thanks Ken..you never know!!! This program is really awesome and super easy to use. Barry Wells gave this away to the winner on his site a week ago and what a prize it is. It’s really helps take the guess work out of editing photos and creating the type of tutorial that we all can understand. Good luck Ken and thanks for entering!

Hi Sonia, the ability to take screenshots is really valuable for someone like me who is always creating software tutorials. I have some really cool extensions I use in Chrome and my favorite one is called Light Shot which is great for capturing YouTube videos screenshots, but I also use Awesome Screenshot because the it’s easy to draw the arrows and call outs. Snagit takes things a step further by allowing you to capture screens even if you’re offline. Thanks for the great review and the giveaway. I’m in!

Hey Ileane, I have never heard of Light Shot. See I am so new to the video portion and I will have to check that out. Have you created a post about Light shot? If not you have to do that so I can learn how to use that one too. Thanks for your support girl and entering the contest!

Hi John, I know isn’t it cool? The snagit people loved it too and asked if I could do a write up for them on their marketing stuff. How cool is that? This program is something I use daily and if I didn’t have it, it would suck. I am so glad you got a kick out of my post. Thank you so much!
