6 Reasons Why You Should Create an About.me Profile Page
The other day I was on the internet roaming around my favorite blogs and ran across a profile that had a kick-butt about me page.  It was a fluke that I found this page; another reason why bloggers need to comment on other blogs. His page was innovative, creative and super cool to look at that it reminded me of Srinivas Rao because I know he is into surfing.  I immediately signed up and didn’t finish my profile until now.

After creating my personal page on About.me, I decided to share some of the reasons I like it so much, and why you should create an About.me page as your social “calling card” to showcase your talents.

1. Back Links

If your super conscious about “page rankings” you can add all of your social media buttons from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram (Apple App), Linkedin, Google + and many others. If you don’t see the icon in their list of services to add, you can always add your custom link.

2. Directory

Once you’re account is created and completed, your profile will be added to their directory immediately. You can choose how you want to be searched either via your name or your email address of choice. In your dashboard, you’re able to change your name or email contact information with no restrictions.

3. Customization

If you have Adobe Photoshop or the Gimp (Free Photoshop Software) this is a fun way to customize and create a page that showcases your personality.  Create a collage for Photographers to showcase your work, or show pictures of your family.  Add the background or picture and go!

4. Analytics

If you are into statistics, look no further because is already built into your profile. About.me allows you to track visitors, and you’re able to “fav” your favorite profiles in your account and get ideas or further inspiration to change and update your own profile.

5. Easy Set Up

You can create a profile page in 5 minutes. If your photo savvy, you can create a beautiful picture that symbolizes who you are. There are many different fonts and colors to choose from so you can use the background images they provide or upload your own.

6. Promote Your Business

Don’t have business cards? Send them you’re page to showcase your work, skills and talent. You can also use this to point visitors to your resume or website. You can get a Free pack of Business cards with you’re profile creation in color. All you have to pay is $5.50 shipping from moo.com. To get this deal, once you’re logged into About.me, click on “offers” in your dashboard to take advantage of this offer.

Best of all: It’s FREE!

Oooh! How cool! Now this is something I could really look forward to creating. The only problem is I don’t have a clue as to what I want my About.Me page to be about – me? My blog? Is it going to be used to promote myself as a blogger/writer? So many decisions to make! :-) Thanks for introducing the site, though. Otherwise, I would never have even known it existed… and wouldn’t now be obsessed with ways to design it! LOL!

Hey Jennifer, you can make it about whatever you want, but I think it should be about you. You can list your blog and other social media links on there too. Look at the other examples for inspiration and share your link back on this post later so everyone can see it. I can’t wait to see what you create. If you need help with it let me know.

I have an About.me page – but, like Jennifer, am not really sure what to do with it. For the time being, all I have is my name, a small photo, and a blog link.

I thought about that too, but I love how I was able to show my personality with it and what is near and dear to my heart. I think self expression is awesome and use it as a calling card.

    Hi Sonia,

That is really cool. I am checking the site right now . I think it is a good idea to put such a profile as it enhance the visibility on internet and does great of course for SEO.
I think Facebook has more to fear from such small sites than bigger competitor. Niche companies always get to the leadership and threaten the existing order.
thanks for sharing this valuable piece of information.

    Hey Sonia!

Crazy thing is that I was just thinking about this. I recall someone pointing me to their aboutme page not too long ago and I couldn’t remember what the platform was….but I did remember how much I liked it.

Perfect timing and my goal is to get one set up in the very near future.

    Thank you!

Hi JK, yeah it’s a pretty unique way to advertise you. I think what’s great about it is the ability to really be creative and showcase who you really are and what is most important to you. We get to see each other’s personality and showcase what is cool to us. Thanks for stopping by my friend. How is the family doing? Did you “eye-spy” your website link on my profile?

I like that dude’s Golden Gate Bridge pic.

I want to go there and visit my brother and get my picture taken in that same spot. But before I do, I want to cruise over to the Wharf and have one of those street performers draw a nerded out caricature picture of me and hold that over my face to protect my secret identity.

I’d think I’d also bribe one of those silver painted break dancers with a $20 and have him come down and be in the pic with me. What would be awesome is to have all the weirdest/most memorable performers/homeless people I can find surrounding me. Hehehe

Love this aboutme idea Sonia and I’m so glad I dropped by so you could show it me!

What The What!!! Your commenting platform left something out of my comment that I placed symbols around. So Weird?

After, “draw a nerded out caricature picture of me and hold that over my face to,” I had, ‘Insert Damon Wayans Blank Man voice here’ to protect my secret identity”

Needed to insert that. Sounded like I take myself too serious the other way. :)

Thanks for the article. I guess it was happenstance that I found your site. I just finished completing the “look” of my site and I had been thinking about whether to add an About page or not. After reading this, I guess I will after all. Thanks again. And stop by and critique my site any time.
