Ok, back to my post …My favorite movie, Indiana Jones, is a movie I can watch over and over as if it just came out. There is something about the adventures that remind me of the Road trips I take every year and the mysteries I want to find.
The other day, while was watching the Indiana Jones Trilogy a few honest points struck me about blogging:
- Destroy Fear by Recognizing it holds you back – We all have some sort of fear that holds us back or puts a powerful wedge between you and your success. The key to getting past that fear is clearly facing what you fear the most. Determination and perserverance goes along way when you’re faced with obstacles. The fight is never over. Indiana Jones hated snakes more than anything, but when he saw that it stood in his way of obtaining his success, he focused on the item he needed and nothing else. How determined are you?
- Adventures should be shared – Taking a trip or going on a new adventure is never fun when you have to go it alone. We all love the idea of starting something new and building a company that you can call all your own, but not sharing it with others gets you nowhere. Visit other blogs, Network and Comment, Comment, Comment!
- Action, Reaction – Indiana knew how to think quickly when it counted and his reaction to the most precarious situations still blow me away(yeah I know it’s only a movie work with me now!). His actions were short and fast, but it always got him out of situations when he knew it could get him in trouble or worst killed. Not to say that your blog is in any kind of do or die situation, but how you react to unpleasant comments on your blog is essential. All eyes are all on you and how you react can either make or break you if you’re not careful. Not everyone will like what you say or blog about, but remembering that you are the person behind all the hard work and that’s all that truly matters right? Indiana always practiced caution and was aware of his surroundings before jumping the gun.
- Knowing where you belong – Indiana was truly passionate about rare relics belonging in a museum. His belief was that everything precious belonged in clear view for the people who appreciated it the most; old or new. Is your blog in the right niche? Are you producing content relevant to your niche?
- X Doesn’t Always Marks the Spot – Indiana was genius for having those “aha moments” when a clue presented itself. Sometimes we try so hard to figure out what we are doing incorrectly when most times the clues are right in front of us. Like the monk said in the movie, 2012, “Like this cup, you are full of opinions and speculations. To see the light of wisdom… you first must empty your cup”. Changing your perspective in the way you think can have a dramatic impact on your decision-making.
- Versatility is Essential – Indiana always kept a few things ready with him: his hat and a whip. They might not seem like much protection to you, but he was always able to utilize their abilities when called for. What do you use to help keep your blog versatile? If you were to change the direction tomorrow, will you be able to use what you already have to make a positive change? For Indiana, his rope could be a weapon and or a rope.
- Don’t talk to much – Indiana did not always have time to talk when he was caught in situations where he had to get out fast. Even if the sword was mightier than the pen, he didn’t waste time mincing words with a bigger weapon in front of him. With your blog, we spend so much time trying to find our voice, when you should just shut up and write. Everyone has their own sense of style and flair, but we sometimes forget that it has always been there.
- What’s Fortune worth to you? – Indiana could find the one relic to elevate his career, but if there is something more pressing needed elsewhere, fortune and glory always took a back seat. Is your focus solely on Fortune and Fame or helping others? If others visited your blog, what impression does it say about you? Sometimes forgoing Fortune and Fame has greater value when you can offer help where it’s needed.
- Think Outside the Box – Even when the worst situation presented itself, Indiana always found a way out to escape. What obstacles have you faced with your blog? What did you do differently to change the situation? Sometimes the most bleak location can get almost anyone out of a bad situation just by thinking different. We might all be like Steve Jobs, but we all have an imagination and mind of our own. Learn how to tap into it daily.
- Value What’s Most Important - No matter what Indiana had right in his grasps of his hand, he knew that some fortunes just weren’t meant to be had. Someone once told me, “All money isn’t good money”. It might sound ghetto to some, but it was just like gold when people offer something that might be too good to be true. Take care to focus on the value of the relationships you create online, in your personal life and beyond. Sometimes what we want the most isn’t always good for us.
Now it’s your turn:
- What movie can you think of that could teach you something about blogging?
- What is your favorite attribute about Indiana Jones that you liked best?
Please share your thoughts!

Sonia,
Damn good post. Indiana taught you well. I’d probably be a bad guy trying to steal the relics and get in a bad situation with “boobie” traps.
As for the movie that taught me about blogging, I’d have to say Dumb & Dumber. Hell yeah, that’s in my top 5. There are lots of smokey memories from watching that flick.
The one lesson it taught me was to myself. Those dudes were dorks of the highest order, but did it phase them, no. It just gave them more power to do stupid stuff. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing, but I respect people who don;t conform to the status quo.
Keep the sweet writing flowing like honey.

LMAO! “Smokey Memories”. What up Brad! I liked the analogy with Dumb and Dumber and I agree. I like it when people aren’t afraid to just be themselves no matter how dorky they might come off. Some people could careless and that always gets my respect. How are you doing? I love what you did with the logo on your site. It looks great!

Hi Sonia,
This is one the best piece of blog that I have ever read( I am not joking).
everywhere
You have really picked out the right things from Indie movies and made them into a readable story.
I think that there are plenty of things to learn from these superhero movies( Indi is not a super hero though). I am a fan of Batman and Superman .Such comics and movies are written with a lot of thought and they have to be full of integrity .
I remember in the “Dark Knight ” when Batman catches Joker with his bat sling(;) ) while he was falling to his death , the joker laughs at him. He then says ” You are incorruptible isn’t it?” That was the strongest point of movie and personal life.
In India, if you have recently heard the news, there is a man by the name of Anna Hazare who is like Gandhi and he galvanized thousands against corruption. His ways made sure that a stubborn government listened to whatever he said. He was completely non-violent. We are in awe of such persons.
Indiana Jones is really a passionate ,intelligent and man of integrity. He never goes after the wealth but just the fact that he has to protect the monuments and live for them.
I don’t think I could add more. I am sharing this

Batman! I don’t know if I cared for him too much, but I think I stopped watching after Michael Keaton stopped playing him. I think if I go back and re-watch it I will find something cool about him. Ok, I am lying, I loved Batman, but I mean the ORIGINAL batman and robin from the 60′s. We watched a movie with them the other day and they had the BATMAN Boat and it was all decked out in black. Yeah it was super cheesy, but really fun to watch. The clothes and other cookey stuff we thought was so cool. Of course I wasn’t born until the 70′s so I caught the re-runs. Thanks Ash for leaving this comment, I was cracking up and it brought back so many memories!
Sonia,
I’m mad.
I wish I’d a thought of this concept for a post first!!! Hahaha
Love what you’ve put down here. Like you, I’ve watched Indy about 500 times and now you’ve inspired me to go download all of them.
And yes, this is a movie character but I believe there’s real examples of people embody all 10 of these principles and believe any of us can do the same. Great job of spelling this out for all of us here.
Also like the number graphics you’ve used. By the time I’ve knocked out a post, I’m REALLY lazy about design. Need to work that. Thanks for reminding me.

Hey Lewis, Ha ha! I am sure someone else has already covered this one, but after watching the movie one day on a Saturday bored off my butt, I thought what can I learn from this fellow and boom I started writing. I would love to get you to guest post on here some time soon!
My God Sonia! You’re really cranking out some hot stuff here. I like how you give us the parallels between Jones and life. The realizing he has to get over his fear of snakes, because it stands in his way thing is, ummm.. AWESOME.
My movie that I could watch over and over again is Quantum of Solice! The newest James Bond flick. Rocks!
Sweet post, sis.

Seriously, I am a huge of James Bond. I am right there with you Bro..every November TBS plays a rotten robbie of these movies and I watch them all. My boyfriend puts up with it and watches some of them before I have to retired in the room to watch the rest. James Bond…now that is who I should have picked! DAM! Thanks R for stopping by. When is your new project going to be ready?
This is genius. I’m trying to think if I’ve seen a better post on your site and nothing comes to mind. This one flat-out rocks. Let’s see… A movie that I can relate to blogging… “New Jack City?” I’m like the Nino Brown of blogging. I started small, took over a spot in the blogging neighborhood and then expanded my operation into an internet radio show. Wait. No, bad example. I forgot that Nino got shot and fell to his death at the end. LOL! Again, great post! Your best yet.

LMAO! I was just watching New Jack City last night and some of the styles we were back then..wow! I was thinking of you should do something like James Bond actually. I can see you putting a kick butt spin on that one.

Excellent post. And a fun #11: Every good blog should have a cameo by Sean Connery. Hard to do, yes, but well worth it.
My blog, if I had to compare to a movie, would be Spaceballs. My blog seems to be a satire of other writers who are just trying to hard. I try not to take anything too seriously, except for the rare controversial post where I try to get a conversation going. Most of the time I just use my words to thumb my nose at everything and everyone.
So yeah… Spaceballs: The Blog.

Brandon, you have to do a post based on that. I think that would be very funny because I can’t count how many times I have seen that movie.

I agree with Brad Sonia, damn good post. I love how you used these parallels and who the heck doesn’t love Indiana Jones!
Okay, the only movie I can watch over again (but not constantly) is Dirty Dancing. I’m a sap, what can I say. But I did love Indiana Jones, what action thrillers they were.
I love how you compared some of the things he did in the moving to blogging. I never really thought about that until you pointed it out. Getting over our own fears and just keep moving forward, yep! Indiana Jones can definitely teach us a thing or two, I totally agree!
Great post Sonia, just a great job overall. You’ve outdone yourself girl. I do believe I’ll be back for more.

Hey Girl! Thanks for popping over. Yeah that post took me a few days and my doggies driving me crazy to get it done. I love love love the Indiana Jones Trilogy and one day something snapped while watching it and I found myself constantly rewinding the movie to catch things I had missed, then it clicked to profile his character. Thanks for stopping by girl and I loved your last article too! I featured your post on my other blog CriteekMyBlog.
Hi Sonia,
I think it’s great how you’ve taken your thoughts from the film (in UK we call them films
) and applied them to blogging. Very clever and so true, I’ll have to re-watch my favourite film now and see what thoughts I can come away with
My favourite film is the great escape and i watch it every time it comes on the TV, much to my families annoyance as it’s 3.5 hrs long. But it is based on a true story and the story deserves us to watch and remember.
You know Sonia, I’m going to be watching TV with a whole new minset from now on and seeing what golden posts I can take from them.
Fantastic!!
Take care, Barry

I swear Barry, I have a pen and pad with me all the time, jotting down ideas and stuff I hear. How I want to interpret it and put in on paper is the fun part. What we can come up with unique ideas that either all our own or inspired by someone else. Indiana Jones is the best movie out there….well ok, Star Wars actually, but it’s a close 2nd. I am glad you liked this and thank you for all of your comments. This is great!
